What is Ivalua?

The short answer

Ivalua is a source-to-pay software platform: one application on one data model for supplier management, sourcing, contracts, buying and invoice processing. Founded in France in 2000 and privately held, with Hg as an investor since 2024, it is a Leader in Gartner’s 2026 Magic Quadrant for Source-to-Pay Suites.

What does Ivalua do?

Ivalua runs an organisation’s procurement in one system: who the suppliers are, how they are chosen, what is signed with them, what is ordered and how it is paid. Ivalua names the areas on its own site as intake management, sourcing, contract management, supplier management, eProcurement and accounts payable automation, on a single codebase and data model.

AreaWhat it coversWhere it sits in the chain
IntakeThe front door for requests: what someone needs and who approves itBefore buying
Supplier managementRegistration, qualification, risk and performance of suppliersSource-to-contract
SourcingTenders, requests for proposal and awardSource-to-contract
Contract managementDrafting, approval, signature and follow-up of contractsSource-to-contract
eProcurementCatalogues, requisitions and purchase ordersProcure-to-pay
Accounts payable automationInvoice capture, matching and approvalProcure-to-pay

One platform for both halves of source-to-pay: choosing and contracting suppliers, then buying and paying them.

Ivalua also sells features for direct spend in manufacturing, such as supplier quality processes and cost breakdowns at bill-of-materials level. For what source-to-pay and procure-to-pay mean in general, eProcurement Toolkit’s guides to procure-to-pay and e-procurement start from the basics, without a vendor angle.

Who owns Ivalua?

Ivalua is privately held. David Khuat-Duy founded it in France in 2000 and is its CEO. Investors have come in rounds; the split of ownership after the 2024 investment by Hg has not been published.

YearInvestorWhat was reported
2011Ardian (then Axa Private Equity)€3 million; still a shareholder in 2017
2017KKR$70 million of growth capital, a minority stake
2019Tiger Global Management and Ardian Growth$60 million round valuing Ivalua above $1 billion; management kept majority ownership
2024HgPartnered with Ivalua; terms not published

A founder-led private company backed by growth investors since 2011; who holds the majority today is not public.

Ivalua is French in origin and American in its corporate address: Hg lists it under France and the USA, and its 2026 press releases are datelined Redwood City, California.

How big is Ivalua?

Ivalua says more than 500 brands use it, and its site shows customers such as IKEA, Booking.com, Crédit Agricole, Michelin, Rolls-Royce and NYC. As a private company it publishes no audited accounts, so revenue figures quoted for it come from the company itself or from estimates.

Public buyers use it too, which is why some of its contract terms are public: the NASPO ValuePoint agreement with the State of Maine, Maryland’s eMMA platform, the French state’s procurement system and the Swiss university EPFL all run on Ivalua.

How is Ivalua built, and why does it matter to an implementer?

Ivalua describes one codebase and workflow engine, one data model, a no-code configuration toolkit with a Design Mode, more than 200 add-ons, and a multi-instance SaaS architecture: each customer has its own instance rather than sharing one with others. Releases are numbered; release 174 became generally available in July 2022 and 178 in August 2023.

For the team implementing it, three consequences follow, all written into Ivalua’s own contract terms published in 2023:

  • Certified people do the work. Configuration needs Ivalua Level 2 certification, integrations Level 3, or a certified partner.
  • Upgrades are compulsory. Ivalua recommends an upgrade every 12 to 18 months and requires one at least every two years; behind that, it no longer answers for defects, security or the service level.
  • Departures from the standard cost twice. Complex configuration and integrations added after go-live are charged again at each upgrade.

I have seen that last point at platform scale. At BNP Paribas the group platform built on v156 carried many complex specific configurations; on v164 it was rebuilt from scratch to reset and simplify them, and on v182 a new solution was built again. The v164 case study explains why.

Where is Ivalua in the Gartner Magic Quadrant?

Ivalua is a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Source-to-Pay Suites, and has been in each edition since the first one in 2024. The quadrant has widened each year.

EditionLeadersVendors evaluated
2024 (29 January 2024, first edition)Coupa, Ivalua (the only two)10
2025 (24 March 2025)Coupa, GEP, Ivalua, Oracle, SAP12
2026 (21 January 2026)Coupa, GEP, Ivalua, Oracle, SAP, Zycus13
Leaders in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Source-to-Pay Suites, as each vendor announced its own position

Ivalua has been a Leader in all three editions; it shared the Leaders quadrant with Coupa alone in 2024 and with five other vendors in 2026.

Positions come from the vendors’ own announcements; Gartner does not endorse vendors. How Ivalua and Coupa differ for a team that has to implement one of them is the subject of a planned comparison, Ivalua vs Coupa.

Does Ivalua have AI?

Yes. Ivalua launched IVA, its assistant, in November 2023 with supplier research, a legal assistant, an RFP assistant and chat with documents. In June 2026 it announced IVA Studio, in beta at launch, with general availability announced for the summer. According to Ivalua, IVA inherits the permissions of the user who calls it, logs every action, and can run on models Ivalua provides or the customer’s own. A planned guide, Ivalua AI, will look at it in detail.

Who is Ivalua for?

Ivalua suits organisations that want one source-to-pay platform shaped to their processes, and are ready to staff the project: certified consultants, key users available for design and testing, and a run team for the upgrades that follow. It is less of a fit for a buyer that wants a product to use as delivered with no configuration.

I am an implementer, not a neutral adviser: I am a certified Ivalua consultant (L1 to L3), not an Ivalua partner, and I do not speak for Ivalua. A vendor-neutral starting point for choosing software is eProcurement Toolkit’s procurement software guide. For an Ivalua project, I take senior missions or lead an Ivalua team.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Ivalua?

Ivalua is a private company. Its founder, David Khuat-Duy, is CEO; investors have included Ardian since 2011, KKR since 2017 and Tiger Global since 2019, and Hg invested in 2024. In 2019 management held the majority; the split after 2024 is not published.

Is Ivalua a French company?

It was founded in France in 2000 and keeps French and American entities: Hg lists it under France and the USA, its contracts mention Ivalua SAS and Ivalua Inc., and its 2026 press releases are datelined Redwood City, California.

Is Ivalua an ERP?

No. Ivalua is a source-to-pay platform: it handles suppliers, sourcing, contracts, purchase orders and invoices, and exchanges data with the ERP, which keeps the accounting, the vendor master for payment and the general ledger. The interfaces between the two are a core part of any implementation.

Is Ivalua cloud software?

Yes. Ivalua sells its platform as SaaS with a multi-instance architecture, so each customer runs its own instance. Ivalua plans maintenance for the weekend after the second Tuesday of each month, according to its 2023 contract terms.

Is Seb Troz an Ivalua partner?

No. I am an independent, certified Ivalua consultant (L1 to L3) with three full-cycle implementations at BNP Paribas. I work directly for clients or alongside integrators, and I do not speak for Ivalua.
